Growing up beaver: from kit to adult
Beavers spend their first two years at home before striking out on their own. Here's how a kit grows up.
Consent test page — Age verification. The CMP asks for the visitor's age before
the consent banner, then adapts consent to their age or redirects younger visitors.
Beaver facts
- Beaver kits are born in spring, usually in a litter of two to four, already furred and with their eyes open.
- Young beavers stay with their parents for about two years, helping to raise the next litter before leaving home.
- At around two years old they disperse, sometimes travelling many kilometres to find a stretch of river they can claim.
- Beaver pairs are usually monogamous and can stay together for many seasons.
- In the wild, beavers commonly live 10 to 12 years.
